"The mission of a sales person is not to sell. It is to satisfy the customer needs profitably." The purveyor of these tidings was the featured speaker at an event hosted by Inc. magazine and sponsored by IBM. The speaker was Dirk Beveridge who used the topic "Smart Marketing with Technology," as the framework for a polished, energetic and amusing presentation. First, it has to be determined who are the business's profitable customers. Beveridge laid down several "fundamental rules of business," during the presentation. One is "not all customers are created equally." Marketing efforts should be tailored to the profitable customer segment.
